Our Story

For over three decades, The End Studios has helped shape the visual identity of Durban’s businesses. Founded 35 years ago by brothers Idris and Sayeed Hoosain, the company became known not just for its expertise in signage, branding, and communication—but for its deep understanding of how to bring ideas to life with soul, precision, and lasting impact.

yet, behind the scenes, a different vision was quietly forming.

Where Faith Meets Form

As devout Muslims and lifelong creatives, Idris and Sayeed often felt a void in the world of Islamic art—particularly in the space where design meets devotion. Too much of what existed felt either mass-produced or creatively restricted. They longed for something more: a studio that honoured Islamic tradition while embracing bold design thinking. A space where beauty and spirituality could coexist, and where sacred stories could be retold through modern craftsmanship.

From that longing, Calligraphic was born.

This wasn’t just a new business—it was the natural evolution of a lifetime of faith, creativity, and curiosity. Drawing inspiration from the Qur’an, the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the rich symbolism found in Islamic stories, Calligraphic was established to create spiritually resonant art for homes, masajid, and public spaces alike.

Born from Devotion, Shaped by Design

Backed by the infrastructure and experience of The End Studios, Calligraphic brings together fine design and robust manufacturing. Each piece is carefully conceptualised, using materials like wood, metals, perspex, vinyls and lighting —selected not only for their durability, but for their symbolic and sensory qualities.

What sets Calligraphic apart is its design approach. Idris and Sayeed didn’t want to simply recreate what already existed. Instead, they asked: What is possible within the ethical boundaries of Islamic expression? And how can we push the creative envelope—while still holding sacred what must remain untouched?

Calligraphic is the answer to that question—a place where faith is visible, form is meaningful, and every design invites deeper reflection.

This is more than art. It is legacy, intention, and an offering of devotion from two brothers who believe that design, when guided by faith, becomes an act of remembrance.
